Adult Faith Formation, by which people consciously grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflection, prayer, and study, must be "the central task in this catechetical enterprise," becoming "the axis around which revolves the catechesis of childhood and adolescence as well as that of old age." This can be done specifically through developing in adults a better understanding of and participation in the full sacramental life of the Church. (Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us, USCC. 1999.)
Following from the mission statement of the Church of St. Peter Adult Faith Formation is assistance in and opportunities for "growth in the formation, understanding and practice of faith."
Adult Faith Formation is the reponsibility of the Adult Faith Formation Subcommittee of the Parish Education Committee. The mission of the Education Committee is:
- To meet the lifelong educational needs of the parish members in order to ensure growth in faith at all ages.
- We share this responsibility with all members of our parish community.
|
Adult Faith Formation Subcommittee meets every other month to discuss the adult faith formation needs of the parish and discern the best ways of meeting these needs.

Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA): an adult parish process which usually includes 12-15 sessions by which an adult becomes a Catholic Christian. "From the time of the apostles, becoming a Christian has been accomplished by a journey and initiation in several stages. This journey can be covered rapidly or slowly, but certain essential elements will always have to be present: proclamation of the Word, acceptance of the Gospel entailing conversion, profession of faith, Baptism itself, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and admission to Eucharistic communion." Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1220.
Ministry of Mothers Sharing (M.O.M.S.): a ministry designed to support and affirm women who also are mothers. The M.O.M.S. group meets every Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. at the parish center. Twice a month they spend "playtime" with their children and twice a month they meet as a group for shared prayer, adult faith formation and discussion.
Marriage Encounter: a weekend experience for husband and wife to strengthen communication skills, make the marriage last and rediscover the joy and passion that God intended for the sacrament of Matrimony.
